In-Person: Autumn Alignment – Bones, Breath & Awareness (Colchester, CT)
Autumn Alignment
A Yin Yoga Workshop on Bones, Breath & Awareness
With Josh Summers MaOM
As autumn arrives, Chinese medicine turns its attention to the Metal Element—the season of breath, discernment, refinement, and letting go. In this Yin Yoga workshop, we’ll explore what these qualities actually feel like in the body. Beginning with functional anatomy and the remarkable variation of the shoulder girdle, we’ll discover why good alignment is less about achieving an ideal posture than learning to work intelligently with the body we actually inhabit.
Through Yin Yoga, Dao Yin, and breath cultivation, we’ll investigate how refined attention changes the quality of movement, softens unnecessary tension, improves the circulation of Qi, and supports a more resilient nervous system. Along the way, we’ll explore a question that has increasingly shaped my own teaching: How little effort is actually required when alignment replaces force?
Drawing from Chinese medicine, Daoist practice, modern fascia research, and more than two decades of teaching Yin Yoga, this workshop offers a fresh approach to embodiment that is both practical and deeply restorative. Whether you’re a yoga teacher, longtime practitioner, or simply curious about moving with greater ease, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of your own body and simple practices for cultivating clarity, vitality, and alignment throughout the autumn season.
