The Training’s Intention
The Heart of Wisdom Training is a 50hr Yin Yoga and Meditation intensive for teachers and students to explore the Yin and Yang of a heart-based approach to meditation.
“One practice, many forms.”
This phrase serves as our Sangha’s motto. The “one practice” is none other than the awakening of your own Heart’s compassion and wisdom (bodhicitta). Compassion and wisdom are described in Buddhism as the two “wings of awakening”, and in the Yin Yoga School, we now offer a 50hr training intensive for each “wing” so that your practice may grow and spread as your awakened Heart takes flight. Wisdom practices tend to emphasize the art of seeing experience, and Compassion practices tend to emphasize the art of relating to experience.
“When water is still, it is like a mirror… And if water thus derives lucidity from stillness, how much more the faculties of the mind?” – Chuang Tzu
In The Heart of Wisdom Training, Josh shares a functional and creative meditation approach to stillness (samatha) and contemplative wisdom (vipassana). This approach develops beautiful calm states of stillness and the sharp clarity of perception that flows from stillness.
Josh’s Intention
The Heart of Wisdom Training draws on Josh’s three decades of practicing and studying various forms of Buddhist meditation within Thai, Burmese and Western traditions. The course is also deeply influenced by Josh’s mentor, Jack Engler, a pioneer in the field of synthesizing Buddhist and Western psychology. In taking the mystery out of meditation, Josh aims to support and guide you towards developing your own personal meditation practice of peaceful relationship.
“Josh manages to demystify meditation techniques in a way that is simple to understand and digest. What I appreciated most, however, was Josh’s ability to share openly and honestly precious personal insights, clearly gained through his own journey trudging along The Path. His authenticity and openness is rare to find and makes him stand out as a yoga teacher, not just an asana teacher. I highly recommend this training for anyone ready to go deeper, to do the real inner work that will support their own personal healing journeys.” – Nicky H.
This Training is open to any student or teacher of Yin Yoga who is interested in deepening their understanding and practice of heart-based meditation. The relaxed format of this training allows you to work at your own pace, integrating the material in a way that aligns with your learning style and schedule. The weekly Q&A sessions with Josh will answer your questions and optimize your learning experience.
