The Practicum: An Overview

December 27, 2018

[lms_previous_next previous_text=”View Previous Assignment” next_text=”View First Assignment”]
The Practicum is our chance to refine your teaching – getting into the finer points of skillful teaching, effective facilitation, and the theory behind Yin Yoga. It is also an opportunity to engage in discussion with your fellow peers about the nuances of teaching.
There are a series of assignments that you must complete. We recommend that you get started on the Teaching Assignment and Theory Assignment first:

  • Teaching Assignment: Submit 4 videos of yourself teaching a student in a live setting.
  • Theory Assignment: Submit 1 video of yourself explaining the Four Principles of Yin Yoga.
    • Once you submit your videos for the Teaching Assignment and Theory Assignment, you will be placed into a cohort with 4 other Practicum students.
    • We will reach out to you via email once we have your cohort assembled.
  • Peer Review Assignment: Watch and comment on the videos from the other members of your cohort.
  • Group Discussion 1: Participate in a live session with your cohort members, led by Josh or Terry.
    • We will reach out to you via email to schedule this session.
  • Reading Assignment: Teaching Yoga: Exploring the Teacher-Student Relationship by Donna Fahri.
  • Ethics Assignment: Write a brief essay on the ethics of teaching yoga (300-500 words).
    • Once you submit your Ethics Assignment, you will be placed into a cohort with 4 other Practicum students, and we’ll schedule a group discussion on the ethics of yoga.
    • We will reach out to you via email once we have this cohort assembled.
  • Group Discussion 2: Participate in a second live session with your peers. This is so we can discuss how your teaching has evolved and progressed.
    • We will reach out to you via email to schedule this session.
