In this lesson, I look at the first of four main principles of practicing Yin Yoga: Coming into a Posture and Playing Your Edge. I talk about what the Target Area of a pose is, what sensations are OK in Yin Yoga, and how to safely Play Your Edge while in a pose. In Yin Yoga, and increasingly in other styles too, there is an emphasis placed on understanding how your body is uniquely influenced by the posture and then from that understanding yogis are able to make wiser choices about how to ‘align’ themselves within the pose. How you feel and adapt to what you’re feeling are important elements of Playing Your Edge in Yin Yoga poses.
