In 2018, I interviewed Tami Simon, founder of Sounds True, about a book she edited called The Dharma of Dogs. The original interview was published by MeaningofLife.tv on February 15, 2018.
Five years later, to the day, my dog and life companion, Ozzie passed. In loving memory of Ozzie, I’m republishing the interview. As I recently re-listened to the conversation, I was struck by two things. First, I was immediately aware of how shut down and walled off I was five years ago – I wasn’t in my heart. I was too heady, too alienated, and too wooden. I know Tami could sense that. And to her credit, the second thing that occurred to me in relistening was how much of what Tami shared was exactly the message I needed to hear, and learn.
Tami shares her own journey into “cracking open her heart’s shell” and how a dog, Jasmin, played a critical dharma role in that healing. Having just lost my dog, Ozzie, I can see how in the last five years, I’ve slowly come to live the lessons Tami spoke of, and how grateful I am to Ozzie for his companionship and teaching on the path into my heart.
I hope you enjoy my conversation with Tami.
